Take a Breather!
Three Minutes to Ease: Exercises to Relax Your Mind & Body ~ Expanding Your Spirit
| |
Love Is Breathing Into the Heart
To be more in the moment, more present, meditation guides tell us to “pay attention to our breath.” We read of ancient mystics who lived every moment of their lives aware of their every breath. Are you noticing your breath as you are reading this? Put attention on your breath—take slower, deeper breaths.
A Course in Miracles teaches that “Love is breathing into the heart.” As we pay more attention to our breath, we are more at ease—our minds become quieter and our bodies relax—and we are closer to the true feelings of our heart, more available to express love and acceptance.
Our exercise this time is noticing. Wherever you are—stopped at a traffic light, reading a magazine, ordering a latte, making a cup of tea—notice your breath. Then whatever you are noticing about your breath—deepen it more, feel your chest gently rise and fall with each inhale and exhale, and imagine your breath, like love, flowing in and out of your heart! |

In addition to noticing your breath as you are engaged in your life, take a three minute “quiet break” at least once each day: |
| |
Sit or lie down. Close your eyes. Put attention on your breath as you take slow, deep inhales and exhales. Relax your shoulders. Feel your chest gently rise and fall with each breath. Relax your hips. Feel your belly fill like a balloon with each inhale and gently deflate with each exhale.
Picture a butterfly lighting on a flower with its wings slowly opening and closing. Imagine your breath like the butterfly’s wings as you slowly and deeply inhale and exhale. Relax your hands and feet. Keep your attention on your breath, flowing in and out, and feel your heart open, open, open more.
Now as you go about your day, imagine your breath moving with ease in and out of your heart like butterfly wings.
