Ritual Musings

Priscilla Wannamaker
~What changes might you make in preparing for your wedding if you knew that the rituals you use—old ones and new ones—only express your heart if they come from your heart?

Circa 1929 bride
~Old rituals were created from our ancestral wisdom and can recapture the sense of flow and deep connection to that spirit. If these inherited rituals can assist us in finding ourselves—our true center, the soft side of us—what is it that you want revealed about yourself or your wedding that words haven’t been able to express?

Circa 1920s bride & attendants
~A ritual is not about “things”—the size of your ring, or the number of attendants, or how many dozens of flowers you use. The value in using such elements that have become weddings traditions (not “rules”) is what they contribute to the sheer pleasure of opening hearts! Use your heart as a measure.

Julie Mikos
~Any simple activity in life—making a cup of tea, lighting a candle, walking across a room—can become a meditative ritual when we attend to it like a precious gift. Being conscious and awake to every moment creates a communication from our heart.
